Dana Land’s Doris Duke Concert
For jazz singer Dana Land, every concert is a party. She creates shows that combine music with comedy and plenty of exotica; she’s a modern-day descendant of Carmen Miranda, complete with fruit basket worn on the head. It takes balance, and skill, to keep that fruit basket up there, but Dana keeps it all under control with her infectious sense of fun. She and her cabana boys have a new show called TROPICABANA! A Musical Romp through the Tropics. The show’s at the Honolulu Museum of Art’s Doris Duke Theater this Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.
Intro Music: All the Cats Join In by Dana Land
Outro Music: Princess Pupule Has Plenty Papaya by Dana Land
Proposed FCC Internet Regulations: Todd O’Boyle
The proposed FCC Internet rules are now up for debate. Issues for consumers may turn on the question of whether Internet providers will be classified as common carriers like phone companies. If so, then providers will have to treat all companies the same... but if not, some companies could get fast lane access and pass on the cost of privilege to consumers - which some companies say is happening now for anyone paying for high speed Internet. Common cause program director of media and democracy Todd O’Boyle joined the show from Washington to provide his take on the issue.
Intro Music: Got Django by Hot Club of Hulaville

Fly by Night Cabaret: Tamara Braun
Most of us can only imagine what the world was like back in the days when vaudeville was king. Variety shows used to be a staple item on the entertainment menu in towns across America, and performers of all kinds could combine their talents in any number of combinations. Tamara Braun is keeping that idea alive with an upcoming show on Kauai called “Fly by Night Cabaret.” It’s a show that features burlesque, comedy, dance, music, and even aerial performance, and she joined the show by phone to tell us how she put it all together.
