Homelessness and Systems Mapping/Analysis: Robert Ricigliano
The longstanding issue of homelessness in Hawaii has many people looking in a few strategic directions...more shelters, more affordable housing. Rob Ricigliano, Co-Director of the Master of Sustainable Peacebuilding program at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, says that may not be the best way to solve the problem. He advocates systems mapping analysis to see the patterns of social dynamics we’ve likely missed. We met before the show and I asked him how you tell that to someone who is on the street and needs housing now.

Expanding HI’s Largest Private Nature Preserve: Jody Kaulukukui
There’s good news for wilderness-lovers. After over two decades, an agreement between the Nature Conservancy and a Maui landowner will protect and preserve more than 9,000 acres of rainforest in the East Maui watershed. The land is isolated and relatively untouched, home to at least twenty threatened or endangered species of plants and two exceedingly rare native forest birds, but is still prey to an onslaught of invasive species. Jody Kaulukukui, Director of Land Protection for The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii for the Nature Conservancy joined the show to discuss.

Frontlines of the Climate Fight: Bill McKibben
For environmentalists and early adopters of the climate change message, Bill McKibben’s 1989 book, The End of Nature, might have been your first read. Since then, he’s taken the message to a planet-wide grassroots movement, largely through the founding of 350.org, the first planet-wide, grassroots climate change movement. He spoke yesterday at UH M?noa, and joined the show to continue the climate discussion.
