Classical Pacific, April 24, 2018: Orchestras of the Pacific Rim 2

This week I'm featuring Pacific Rim Symphony Orchestras. Yesterday the focus was the San Francisco Symphony. Today it's the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1903. Notable conductors have included Sir Thomas Beecham, Milton Katims, Gerard Schwartz, current director Ludovic Morlot and upcoming director Thomas Dausgaard. A work commissioned by the Seattle Symphony, Become Ocean, by John Luther Adams (not to be confused with John Adams) won the Pullitzer Prize for Music in 2014.  Join me to hear the collective voice of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.

While you're at it, don't miss a performance by our own Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra. There's no comparison between a recording of an orchestra and the experience of hearing an orchestra live. This weekend, esteemed conductor Leonard Slatkin will be conducting the orchestra in both Pops and Masterworks concerts.

Friday, April 27, 7:30pm, Leonard Slatkin Conducts the music of John WIlliams.

April 28 and April 29, Leonard Slatkin conducts Cindy Mc Tee's Finish Line; the Sibelius Violin Concerto, with Elina Välhälä, Violin; and Brahms Second Symphony.

For tickets, call 94 MUSIC (946-8742). Box office hours, M - F, 8:30am - 4:30pm.
