Bytemarks Café is a half-hour radio magazine that showcases the innovation and creativity in Hawaiʻi's tech community. Hosted by Burt Lum, the program's purpose is to raise awareness of the tech economy and engage the listener in the discussion. Bytemarks Café will leverage the internet and social media technologies to extend the conversation well beyond the 30-minute time slot with the intent of building and nurturing this vibrant and vital community in Hawaiʻi.

  • Today we'll learn about a couple of up and coming networking events for starups and entrepreneurs. We'll find out how Startup Oahu and Thrive HI are infusing new energy into Hawaii'ls growing tech scene.
  • Today on Bytemarks Cafe we’ll hear from the Hawaii Venture Capital Association about their annual entrepreneur awards. We also feature two award winning companies, Blue Ocean Barns for Deal of the Year and Noho Home for Island Innovator.
  • Sandra Fujiyama, the Executive Director of P.A.C.E. (Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship), will discuss the future of P.A.C.E. projects, Entrepreneurship Live, and the Calvin Shindo Student Venture Fund
  • Today on Bytemarks Cafe, we’ll turn the clocks forward and predict whatʻs in store for 2023. We’ll get a perspective from Len Higashi, the Executive Director of the Hawaii Technology Development Corp, to see what projects are top of the list.
  • Today we’ll learn about the history of the shaka sign. We’ll find out how this iconic expression has become part of our local culture and how a team plans to document the shaka story.
  • Today we’ll find out about the first flight of Iolani Schoolʻs electric motor glider called e-Hawk. We’ll learn how this student project to build a flight worthy aircraft came to fruition at the North Shore Dillingham Airfield.
  • Today we'll get an inside view of the recent Climate Action Week. We'll find out what initiatives will get implemented to address and solve the climate and energy crisis that confronts us.
  • Today we'll look at a virtual reality category called escape room games. We'll find out what features captivate players in this VR environment and how this is another portal in to the metaverse.
  • Today on Bytemarks Cafe, we’ll turn the clocks forward and predict whatʻs in store for 2023. We’ll get a perspective from the Executive Director of the Hawaii Technology Development Corp to see what projects are top of the list
  • Today we’ll get a unique perspective on a look back at 2022. We'll get a retrospective from our chief information officer and find out what improvements were made to the State's IT infrastructure.
