Bridging the Gap ~October 5th, 2020: Eighteenth Street Lounge

Call this show a tribute.

I just found out (a little late) that the Eighteenth Street Lounge in DC has closed indefinitely. Another casuality to the COVID shutdowns. This was one of my favorite bars in DC, and it's style and selection was one that I shaped a lot of DJ sets around. It was always on my gig bucketlist, but sadly never came to be. So this session of Bridging the Gap will feature music from the ESL music the record label founded by Eric Hilton, co-founder of the bar and Thievery Corporation, and will dig into the world and jazz inspired lounge.

Nick Yee’s passion for music developed at an early age, as he collected jazz and rock records pulled from dusty locations while growing up in both Southern California and Honolulu. In college he started DJing around Honolulu, playing Jazz and Bossa Nova sets at various lounges and clubs under the name dj mr.nick. He started to incorporate Downtempo, House and Breaks into his sets as his popularity grew, eventually getting DJ residences at different Chinatown locations. To this day, he is a fixture in the Honolulu underground club scene, where his live sets are famous for being able to link musical and cultural boundaries, starting mellow and building the audience into a frenzy while steering free of mainstream clichés.
