Ten students, teachers, and alumni from the UH Manoa ceramics department have launched a group show at Mark’s Garage.  HPR’s Noe Tanigawa found that works range from whimsical to practical, with many designed especially for the sake party opening planned for First Friday.

"10 Grains of Rice" showcases the functional and sculptural work of ten ceramic artists who share a “staple" material, clay.  The show brings together artists across several generations of UH Manoa ceramics students (spanning approximately 20 years), to foster bonds within the younger segment of the ceramic community, while highlighting the versatility of the ceramic medium in the hands of ten different minds, skill sets, and life experiences. Functional and sculptural work will be for sale.

Grand Opening: First Friday, February 7, 2013, 6-10pm

With pottery wheel demonstrations by 10 Grains of Rice artists and stylized, entertainment only "rice" fortune telling and more!

The BAR at Marks will be open serving sake with handmade sake cups for purchase and beer selections courtesy of Kona brewing company.
