Honolulu is the latest county in the state to allow residents to renew their vehicle registration at a self-service kiosk.
To minimize long lines at satellite city halls, Honolulu’s Department of Customer Services unveiled the new kiosk at the Kapahulu Safeway yesterday.
The DMV Now kiosks are blue and yellow machines that look similar to an ATM, and have the same level of security as an ATM.
Residents can renew their cars, trucks, trailers and motorcycles at the kiosk within 45 days of the expiration of the registration.
Mayor Kirk Caldwell says the Safeway stores were chosen because they are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The kiosks are also available at the South Beretania, Waimalu and Kaneohe Safeway locations. The city plans to add two additional kiosks at other Safeways on the island.
