The Conversation: Hawaii's COVID-19 Research On Testing, Vaccines and Treatment

AP Photo/Audrey McAvoy

There's local research underway around COVID-19. We explore issues around diagnostic tests - one uses saliva, another nasal swabs. We also talk about vaccines, antibody tests and treatment. There is a need for plasma from those who have recovered from COVID-19. There are a number of clinical trials underway or about to get underway in the Islands and we talk about why there is a need to get a diverse pool of participants.

Our guests today:

  • Dr. Kathy Kozak, host of The Body Show, which airs at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays on HPR-1.  Dr. Kozak works at Straub Medical Center as an internist specializing in preventative health, travel medicine, women's health and wellness. She's also the medical director at UHA Insurance.
  • Patrick Sullivan, founder and CEO of Oceanit. The company has been in Hawaii for 35 years and its mission is to implement innovative and sustainable engineering solutions.

We like to hear from you. Call our Talkback line at 808-792-8217, or record a voice memo and email it to talkback@hawaiipublicradio.org.
