Caution urged as COVID numbers increase

Can we still control an out of control COVID spread? We talked to epidemiologist Tim Brown, a tracking expert at the East West Center, who last week cautioned the public about how risky it is to be out and about with community spread now growing.

At the beginning of the year scientists testing out the optics of the world’s largest telescope on Haleakala published the first pictures of activity around the sun. The call for proposals for time on the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope had a deadline of last week Friday.  Director of the project, Thomas Rimmele, says never in his wildest dreams did he imagine the response he got.

Impact-Bound promotes student civic engagement 

As in-person instruction was pushed back for many of Hawaii’s schools this week, more and more students are coming to grips with receiving their education online.  For many, this has been an obstacle that educators across the state have been dealing with since the beginning of the pandemic. But for Robert Landau of Impact School - online was the plan all along.   He spoke with The Conversation’s Harrison Patino on the program’s rollout and what it hopes to achieve.
