Blood Bank of Hawai?i in Urgent Need of Blood

Blood Bank of Hawaii

The Blood Bank of Hawai?i is in urgent need of blood, and is asking residents for help.

Across the country, during the summer fewer people give blood – making it a challenging time for blood banks.

On top of that, the threat of Hurricane Lane meant the Blood Bank was closed on Friday, and the lack of donations further lowered its supply.

They were able to cover the needs of hospitals for the weekend, but it has left the organization with less than one day’s supply of blood.

Kim-Anh Nguyen is the President and CEO of Blood Bank Hawai?i.

To donate blood, donors must be:

  • In good health
  • Be 16 years or older (16-17 year-olds  can donate with a signed parent/legal guardian consent form)
  • Weigh at least 110 pounds
  • Have a photo ID with birth date.

TO make an appointment, you can call (808) 848-4770 or visit http://www.bbh.org.

A list of blood bank locations and hours of operation can be found here.
