A Rainbow Wahine basketball player was drafted by the Los Angeles Sparks in the third round of Monday's WNBA draft.

University of Hawaiʻi forward Amy Atwell was the 27th overall pick and the second UH player ever taken in the draft.

Atwell is the first since Judy Mosley was picked by the Sacramento Monarchs in the first round of the inaugural WNBA draft in 1997.

"I’m incredibly excited to be joining one of the best organizations in all of professional sports!" Atwell wrote on Twitter.

Atwell is originally from South Perth, Australia, according to the university.
