Honolulu Mayor in Washington to provide feds with rail update

Wikimedia Commons

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi is in Washington, D.C to provide Federal Transit Administration officials with an update on the city’s rail transit project.

The project is over budget and years behind schedule, and the city must provide the FTA with a recovery plan by this June that details how it will fund the system to completion.

The 20-mile line is planned to run from the ʻEwa plain to Ala Moana Center.

Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation officials say the current price tag is over $11 billion with a projected shortfall of nearly $2 billion.
