Former Kamehameha Schools and Office of Hawaiian Affairs trustee Oswald "Oz" Stender died Wednesday, Feb. 23. He was 90.
Stender served as an OHA trustee for 14 years, and as a member on the Board of Trustees for the Bishop Estate, which oversees his alma mater Kamehameha Schools.
"A Kamehameha Warrior and former trustee, he committed himself to the mission of Kamehameha Schools and was steadfast in his service to Native Hawaiian students, their families, and communities. We are forever grateful for his vision, personal sacrifice and compassion," the Kamehameha Schools Board of Trustees said in a statement.
He was also a CEO for the James Campbell Estate for 12 years.
Plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
"Our family asks for respect and privacy at this time, as we grieve the loss of our 'Oz' – a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather," his family said in a statement.
