University of Hawaiʻi reports record 4-year graduation rates at Mānoa and West Oʻahu

University of Hawaiʻi

University of Hawaiʻi campuses achieved record-high graduation rates for the academic year 2020-2021, which was fully impacted by the pandemic.

In his report to the UH Board of Regents, President David Lassner said UH Mānoa achieved the highest four-year graduation rate in history for full-time, first-time students at nearly 40%.

The five-year graduation rate was 56.9%, and the six-year graduation rate was 58.9%.

“We are so proud of the improvements that we’ve seen over the last 10 or so years in the four-year graduation rate,” UH Mānoa Provost Michael Bruno said. “In my experience across several decades in academia, I’ve come to learn that the four-year graduation rate is perhaps the most important metric, and also the most difficult to improve.”

UH West Oʻahu also set a record four-year graduation rate at 23% — up from 19% in the cohort prior.

UH Hilo had its second-highest six-year graduation rate at nearly 43%. Its four-year graduation rate was 25% — down from the prior two cohorts.

Across the 10 campuses, there were 49,773 students counted at the beginning of the school year.
