Residents on the Big Island were evacuated and several roads were closed due to a brush fire near Kailua-Kona on Wednesday afternoon. All road closures and evacuation orders have since been canceled.
The fire was located between Queen Kaʻahumanu and Kuakini highways, near the University of Nations.
Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway was closed between Hualālai Road to Puapuanui Street. Kuakini Highway was closed between Oni Oni Street and Nakukui Drive. They have since reopened.
Authorities were going door to door in the Kona Hillcrest and Aloha Kona subdivisions and Pottery Terrace Industrial Area to advise residents to evacuate.
An evacuation center was set up at the Kailua Park Gymnasium at the Old Kona Airport.
Officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire, which began around noon.
No injuries or property damage have been reported.
