High surf warning for north, west shores

In the forecast for the Hawaiian Islands on Friday, there's a high surf warning for the north and west shores of Kauaʻi, Oʻahu and Molokaʻi, and the north shores of Maui. Expect 25 to 35 feet along the north shores and 18 to 25 feet in the west.

The west-northwest swell will build down the island chain through the day Friday, peak Friday night through Saturday, then gradually diminish through the second half of the weekend, the National Weather Service reports.

The high surf advisory is scheduled to expire at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Mostly sunny skies on Friday. On Kauaʻi, expect scattered showers in the afternoon. For the rest of the islands, isolated showers in the afternoon with highs in the lower 80s and variable winds up to 15 miles per hour. Trade winds will strengthen this weekend and into next week.
