John Pelletier of Las Vegas officially picked as the new Maui police chief

John Pelletier of Las Vegas has officially been appointed the new chief of the Maui Police Department.

The Maui Police Commission finalized his selection on Wednesday. He officially begins his new post on Dec. 15.

Pelletier beat out four other finalists from within the MPD. He replaces Tivoli Faaumu, who retired on May 1, 2021.

Pelletier has served at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for 22 years. He oversaw K-9 and SWAT units, and commanded the area responsible for the Las Vegas Strip.

He was most recently captain for the major violator/narcotics bureau.
