This weekend will be the first time fans will be allowed to attend University of Hawaiʻi games since the pandemic began.

Under the state and city’s COVID restrictions, 1,000 spectators will be allowed at outdoor venues — and 500 at indoor events.

The Rainbow Wahine volleyball team will face UC Davis on Friday. Then the Rainbow Warrior football team will face old Western Athletic Conference rivals New Mexico State on Saturday.

While both events are sold out due to capacity limits, there are several things school officials want fans to know going forward.

"Please don’t come to campus to hope that you can maybe sneak a peek at the game from some vantage point," UH spokesperson Dan Meisenzahl said. "We will be asking people to leave campus if they don’t have a legitimate reason for being on campus, and only there to watch the football game. We don’t want people to gather around in those areas."

"Then also, if you do come and you don’t have parking, there are parking pay stations that there’ll be no attendants. So you will have to go and get a parking pass from one of the stations that are positioned around the parking area. And out of an abundance of caution, part of our mitigation efforts are also that we ask everyone to continue to wear a face mask, even outdoors," he said. "And there’ll be no concession, unfortunately, but we will have bottled water for sale. And there’ll be physical distancing."

Athletic Director David Matlin previously said they hope to increase attendance levels for the football team’s final two home games: San Diego State on Nov. 6 and Colorado State on Nov. 20.

Meisenzahl says attendees must be fully vaccinated and upload their status to the Lumi-Sight UH app. A complete list of fan requirements is available at hawaiiathletics.com.
