New Applicants Can Try for Rent Relief on O‘ahu

The City and County of Honolulu has reopened its rental and utility relief program for new applications at oneoahu.org/renthelp.

Those eligible can use the funds for unpaid rent and utility bills, and future payments. Payments can cover a total of up to 12 months total, including bills going back to March 2020.

Households making at or below 80% of O‘ahu’s area median income can apply. That is almost $96,650 for a family of four.

The program has supported 8,000 households and distributed $70 million to landlords and utility companies in the past five months.

Most questions can be answered in the FAQ section at the city's website, but people can call (808) 768-2489 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The U.S. Treasury Department recognized the city as well as the Department of Hawaiian Homelands as one of the fastest local distributors of federal emergency rental assistance money.
