A new program will provide local healthcare workers with two-night accommodations at hotels across the state.

The Hawaiʻi Lodging and Tourism Association has partnered with the Healthcare Association of Hawaiʻi for the "Hotels for Healthcare Heroes" program.

Last year, the HLTA partnered with the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority and the Hawaiʻi Visitors and Convention Bureau on a similar program using state funds.

The new program is being funded by hotels participating in the program. More than 50 properties so far have offered to donate room nights.

The program begins on the weekend of Sept. 17 and runs each consecutive weekend through the end of October.

Hospital administrators will select participants and work with the partner associations to make reservations.
