The National Weather Service issued a special advisory Monday warning that flooding may occur this week along the shores of the major Hawaiian islands because of unsually high tides that are expected.
The high tides are projected to peak before sunrise during early morning. In Honolulu on Tuesday, peak high tide is expected at 3:59 a.m. at 2.5 feet.
Coastal floods could occur on beaches that are normally dry, along vulnerable low-lying roads, docks and boat ramps and other shoreline areas, according to NWS.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says higher than normal tides don't alone cause coastal floods. But with rising sea levels, they are becoming increasingly more impactful.
