DHHL Director Jobie Masagatani Out May 2

Department of Hawaiian Home Lands

Governor David Ige today announced he will not be nominating Jobie Masagatani for another term as head of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.

Masagatani will however stay on until the end of the legislative session.

Masagatani has been head of DHHL since 2012. Term limits prevent her from serving beyond May 2020.

Earlier this year, Ige announced that he planned to retain Masagatani.

But in an email to HPR, he says his administration is using the remainder of Masgatani’s appointment to effectively transition the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands to new leadership.

The Governor has yet to appoint a replacement. But he did, nominate William Ail? to Deputy Director of DHHL.

Ail?’s confirmation hearing with the Senate Hawaiian Affairs Committee is set for Tuesday.
