Today we conclude a two-day special with American songwriting legend Jimmy Webb. He joined HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence as the latest guest on Off The Road, with musicians remotely sharing how the pandemic and other crises have touched them.

Multiple Grammy Award winner, keyboardist/songwriter Jimmy Webb is responsible for classics like Wichita LinemanBy the Time I Get to PhoenixUp, Up and AwayGalvestonand MacArthur Park, to name a few of his landmark compositions. Jimmy has also worked with some of biggest entertainers of all time, including Glen Campbell, Joni Mitchell and Elvis Presley, and thanks to his gift as a great storyteller, shares many profound encounters in his recent memoir The Cake and The Rain, some of which he retells in our two days of features.

Prior to the pandemic, Jimmy also recently released an album of instrumental covers, SlipCover Piano Arrangements, which we also discuss in the interview.

As we wrap up our special, we hear some riveting storytelling about the future of music touring in the age of the pandemic, and get more stories from Jimmy’s memoir, today focused on one of the greatest entertainers of all time, Elvis Presley.

We also have posted the complete nearly 75 minute interview it’s based on.
