ʻŌhiʻa Trail Challenge 2026

ʻŌhiʻa Trail Challenge 2026

The ʻŌhiʻa Trail Challenge is a free, annual collaborative event with Nā Ala Hele Trail and Access Program, Nāpuʻu Natural Resource Management, Akaka Foundation for Tropical Forests, and ʻŌhiʻa Love. Participants take a self-guided hike along the ʻŌhiʻa Trail at Puʻuwaʻawaʻa Forest Reserve, guided by QR codes along the way that share the story of ʻōhiʻa — a treasured kūpuna of our forests — and the native dryland species that make this place so special. Itʻs a chance for ʻohana to connect with ʻāina at their own pace. The first 45 participants or groups to complete the challenge receive a prize pack, including an ʻōhiʻa seedling.

The challenge runs April 11th – May 10th, with a Community Day on Saturday, April 25th from 8:00am–12:00pm, where all partner organizations will be on site with activities, information, and giveaways.
