Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library Hosts First Book Reading with Waikoloa Artist and Writer Kathy Sprinkle
WAIMEA, Island of Hawaii—Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library will host a reading of The Woman Called Grief by Waikoloa-based artist and writer Kathy Sprinkle at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9. The event will mark the first public reading of the author’s upcoming work.
The program is free and open to the community.
Sprinkle also is founder of the Grief Heart Project, which focuses on helping people talk more openly about grief and the people they love. After losing her 17-year-old daughter, Jess, in a car accident, Sprinkle began exploring ways to make these conversations feel more natural through both her writing and community projects.
“We are not very practiced, as a culture, in how to show up for grief,” said Sprinkle. “This gathering is a small step toward encouraging more ease when talking about the people we love.”
Following her reading, Sprinkle will lead a short, practical discussion about grief in everyday life.
