DESCRIPTION: Experience the grand finale of the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra’s (HSO) ‘23-’24 Halekulani Masterworks season with a powerful musical tribute to Polynesian voyaging depicted in Michael-Thomas Foumai’s masterful oratorio, Hōkūleʻa. As HSO’s Composer-in-Residence, Foumai brilliantly weaves together the narratives of Nainoa Thompson, Eddie Aikau and Mau Pialug, inviting you to embark on a musical odyssey through the centuries-old tradition of Polynesian wayfinding.

Through sweeping symphonies and stirring choral arrangements, Raise Hawaiki transports audiences through the trials and triumphs of Hawaiian consciousness awakening. Relive the historic 1976 maiden voyage to Tahiti, the inspiring Mālama Honua worldwide voyage, and the enduring dream of “Raising Hawaiki from the sea.”
