Estaire Godinez is an accomplished vocalist and percussionist. Originally from the Bay area, Estaire grew up speaking to Spanish and listening to Mexican music and jazz. Her brothers are all musicians and songwriters; out of nine siblings, five have had professional musical careers. Before moving to Maui, Estaire’s journey included 14 years of playing around Europe. She spent about a year as a percussionist and background singer with Prince’s New Power Generation, followed by five years with Benson. Reviewing one of her albums, Latin Jazz Network praised: “Once in a blue moon you’ll find an artist who is magnificent in the vocal department, a superb percussionist, writer and arranger of music with all of these aspects of artistry being almost second nature.”
Every Sunday Jazz Maui’s Sunset Jazz concert series showcases local and visiting professional jazz musicians. Each week talented artists present a variety of different jazz forms demonstrating the evolution of jazz from its beginnings in New Orleans in the 1920s. Sold out shows have featured smooth, latin, bossa nova, dixieland, gypsy, swing, traditional, and other jazz subgenres.
