Hawaii Stitchery & Fibre Arts presents: The Art of Kapa by Dalani Tanahy
Dalani Tenahy is a kapa practitioner whose organization, Kapa Hawaii, is dedicated to reviving and preserving the art of kapa. Besides learning about how ancient Hawaiians made and used kapa, she has studied the origins of this technique by looking throughout the Pacific as well as parts of Asia. She also grows and harvests her own wauke (paper mulberry). She intimately knows the entire process of kapa creation and its ancestral roots from its earliest beginning to the finished piece.Members and guests who attend this meeting in person will be given an introduction to the arts of Hawaiian kapa and will see a demonstration of how it is made.
