Thomas Morrison & Angela Draghicescu Bassoon & Piano Recital Sunday, April 3, 2022 Doors Open for Dinner at 5:30, Concert at 7:00 pm PROGRAM: Pierne - Solo de Concert, op. 35 Debussy - Girl with Flaxen Hair (arr. Benjamin Kamins) Beethoven - Variations on Bei Mannern Ravel - Piece en forme de Habanera Libby Larsen - Concert Piece for Bassoon and Piano Tommy Morrison is a bassoonist with a passion for collaboration and learning. A Northern New Jersey native, Tommy has participated in a wide array of performing opportunities throughout the United States, Europe, and Polynesia. Since Fall 2017, he has served as principal bassoon with the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra and Hawaii Opera Theater. He is a founding member of the Noctua Wind Quintet, an ensemble that has garnered top prizes from the Fischoff, Coleman, and Yellow Springs chamber music competitions. He has collaborated with Jean-Ives Thibaudet, Richie Hawley, as well as current members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, and the Seattle Symphony. He is a frequent guest of Chamber Music Hawaii, and has also appeared with Windsync. As an orchestral player, Tommy has performed with the Milwaukee Symphony, Alabama Symphony, the LA Opera, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and the New World Symphony. He has been a fellow at the Music Academy of the West, the Britten-Pears Programme, the Atlantic Music Festival, and the Moritzburg Festival Akademie. In addition to traditional performance opportunities, Tommy has appeared with Grammy-nominated new music ensemble Wild Up!, and his playing can be heard on comedian Chris Fleming’s series GAYLE. Praised by the New York Times as “elegant and spectacular,” pianist Angela Drăghicescu has established an international reputation as a much sought-after pianist and chamber musician. She has performed in major concert halls across North America, and throughout Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Recent engagements have included performances at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Kennedy Center, Kaufmann Center, Konserthus (Stockholm), Oslo Philharmonic, Rudolfinium in Prague, and the George Enescu Philharmonic. Her collaborations include many of today’s leading artists such as James Ehnes, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Doc Severinsen, Frank Huang, and has collaborated in concerts with Maxim Vengerov, René Felming, and Joyce di Donato. She is regularly invited to perform with members of the Berlin Philharmonic, Chicago, New York, and London Symphonies. Previous performances included among esteemed guests, members of the Royal Families of Sweden, Norway, and England. Her festival appearances include Aspen, Music at Menlo, Interlochen Arts Academy; Si Piano (Switzerland) and Seattle Chamber Music Society; and live on BBC 5, Classical King FM Seattle, WQXR New York, WFMT Chicago, Romanian National Radio, and Ruv Ras 1 Iceland. The dinner-show price of $59.00 includes the fabulous show plus a delicious 4-course gourmet dinner, including two entrees (one vegetarian), soup, salad, and dessert. Medici's has taken many precautions to protect its patrons against illness, including UVC air purifiers, 8-foot tall industrial screens between tables and the stage, mandatory mask-wearing for all, temperature checks at the door, and frequent sanitizing of surfaces.
