Punahou graduate and 2nd year student at Caltech, Bao Nguyen shares his experiences as a pianist and violinist while studying chemistry at the prestigious school.
Sharene Keliʻipunilei Lum Taba grew up in Pearl City listening to a variety of music – mostly in the car and the choice of the driver (Grandma, Mom, Dad, sister or brother). It ranged from Hawaiian to Japanese Enka to Top 40 to HPR. Sharene played the violin in school, and is now a professional freelance harpist and mother. She and husband jazz bassist Dean Taba love to play and listen to music, and are raising their children to celebrate the love of learning and of all kinds of music.
Double bassist Taiga Benito has appeared on NPR's "From the Top" with both the Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony and the 4U ʻUkulele Quartet. A member of the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra and a Moanalua High School alum, Benito shares a glimpse into college life as a music major.
In this College Edition of the Tuesday Student Takeover, ʻukulele player and Hawaiian language major Kamakahukilani Plunkett joins Classical Pacific host Sharene Taba to share her love of music and ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi. A summer production and operations intern at Hawaiʻi Public Radio, Plunkett is also a member of the Hawaiian trio Kilia, featured in the Live from the Atherton – Mele Hawaiʻi Performance Series.
