Commercial Rent Survey
A recent survey of nearly 1,500 Hawaii businesses found that 40 percent of businesses were only able to pay partial rent, or none at all. That’s just one of the dire statistics of the 2nd Hawaii Commercial Rent Survey, released by Island Business Management.
It is currently conducting a national survey, which it hopes will provide data for lawmakers to push a rent relief program for commercial tenants.

Virtual Pearl Harbor Commemoration
Monday marks the anniversary of the Bombing of Pearl Harbor. There will be no large gatherings as in the past as the pandemic still looms large, but there will be virtual events to commemorate the historic event. One of them will take place at the University of Hawaii ROTC Center in Manoa, where the Hawaii territorial Guard unit was formed when the army cadets were called into action December 7 1941.
It is a part of Hawaii history that film producer Stacey Hayashi knows something about. Her film Go For Broke recently won a film festival award. She and musician Jake Shimabukuro have lent their time and talent for a virtual event to mark the anniversary.
