The tour boat “Hot Spot,” one of two operated by Lava Ocean Tours along the coasts of Hawaii Island, was hit by a chunk of molten lava yesterday while on tour. Officials tell us there was no law enforcement vessel in the area at the time.

Lahaina Affordable Housing

A lawsuit filed by tenants of a Lahaina affordable housing project has become a bellwether case for the future of affordable housing in Hawaii. Victor Geminiani, an attorney with Lawyers for Equal Justice, is representing some of the plaintiffs in the case.

On our trip to France, we caught up with Jeremy Lemarie, whose recently published book was featured at the Hawaii Festival in Paris. La Marie, who studied History and Sociology at the University of Hawaii, looked at the history of surfing from sources that hadn’t been tapped before-- Hawaiian and French sources.

She has been a television reporter in Hawai‘i since 1983 and has won a number of awards and respect from a statewide audience. She spent more than thirty years at KITV, covering beats from government to education and health. Originally from Guam, Cruz is also a co-founder and former Board member and programming chair of Pacific Islanders in Communication (PIC). Catherine is a graduate of San Francisco State University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.
