A recent court decision is casting new light on what to do about Red Hill. It’s where the military has 20 massive underground steel tanks one, which leaked 27,000 gallons. A circuit court judge ruled that the state health department improperly gave the military an exemption from underground fuel storage rules. The Sierra Club hopes the ruling will now give state health officials more reason to press for an expedited schedule to upgrade the facility.

Khiara M. Bridges is a Boston University law and anthropology professor that has studied the lives of poor women who seek public assistance.

Trees for Hawaii’s Future Growing our Urban Forest
Earlier this week, Honolulu’s mayor threw the spotlight on an effort to plant 100,000 trees by the year 2025. It’s a tall order. But its the focus of a one day urban forestry conference. We talked to Tom Dinnell, professor emeritus of urban planning at the University of Hawaii, about the effort to follow in Australia’s footsteps.
