Last week, people around the world were captivated by an adorable, almost toy-like cuttlefish. The purple, googly-eyed creature wasn’t exactly what scientists thought they’d find, but that’s why they call it the search for the unknown...which will get some help from another underwater exploration vessel- the Schmidt Ocean Institute's new Remotely Operated Vehicle, SuBastian

Hawaii’s Okinawan community is one of the most tenacious in hanging on to its cultural identity -- a tenacity formed back in Japan, where Okinawans are a distinct minority that has had to struggle to hold on to its cultural practices, and even its indigenous languages.   Today, more than a century after they first came to Hawaii, local Okinawans look forward to one of the most popular and well-attended of the summer festivals. The 2016 Okinawan Festival is 34 years along; Lynn MiyahiraKrupa is its program chair.

It’s not too early to be thinking about Halloween - not if you’re planning on mounting a thoroughly scary stage production… and that’s just what Honolulu Theatre for Youth’s fall ‘Primary Players’ Saturday drama program is going to do: introduce kids to the joys of theater by putting them to work and lighting up their imaginations in the process. They’ll be putting on a show called Creepy Crawlers and Other Spooky Stories!”.
