Most studies designed to measure public opinion about climate change emphasize two things: If folks identify as Democrats, they’re more likely to see climate change as a problem and want government to do something about it. Among Republicans, the more educated, the less likely they are to see climate change as a problem. Contributing editor Neal Milner looked at recent, very sophisticated research on what the public thinks about climate change and he says it shows more about attitudes than we have ever known.

As we look for ways to feed an increasingly overpopulated and underfed world, we need to ask ourselves a couple of questions: are we making the best use of resources already on hand, and are we learning enough from the lessons of the past? A team of researchers has just completed a study of a small coral reef fishery at Kiholo Bay on Hawaii Island that suggests that some of the answers we seek are already there. Dr. Kirsten Oleson of the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR) at UH-Mano’a was part of the team, and she joined the show to tell us more.

It has been years in the making and tonight the proposed master plan for managing Kauai's Haena State Park will get a test run. It’s a redrafting and update of the 2001 plan. A notable feature of the new plan limits daily visitors to mitigate human impact, adds a fee for entry, and builds out the park's entrance. And that’s just the first phase.  Kimi Yuen, Senior Associate with PBR Hawai‘i, joined the show to tell us more about the management plan.
