Kuamo’o Battlefield Burial Grounds: Keola Beamer

Something vital is lost when historic sites are allowed to fall apart and historic preservationists operate from an acute sense of their importance to future generations. The battle of Kuamo’o in 1819 signaled a fundamental shift in the lives of Hawaiians (with the abolition of the kapu system) as it offered an object lesson in reconciliation. The site is now the focus of a combined preservation and restoration effort by Aloha Kuamo'o 'Aina and The Trust for Public Land. Keola Beamer is their spokesperson, and he joined the show via phone.

Tiny stinging red fire ants are invading Hawaii! They can bite and leave a welt that can last for weeks. But how did they get here and where are they hiding? Erin Bishop of the Oahu Invasive Species Committee joined the program with an update on the latest. She wants everyone to remember that fire ants are everyone’s responsibility and if you want to know more on how to prevent further infestation, free test kits will be distributed to the public this Saturday at 11:45am at the Hawaii State Library.
