What has changed since the last time a big telescope was put up on Mauna Kea? That's a question Doug Simons is asking himself  and he says many people are asking the same question. Support or opposition for the 30 meter telescope has driven what he sees as an unprecedented wedge through the community. Doug Simons is the Executive Director of the Canada-France Hawaii Telescope and is a career astronomer in Hawaii.

Bicyclists and motorists can agree on one thing: both could use more education about the rules of the road.   The newly formed Maui Bicycling League is going all out this month to make us all safer and healthier. May is the 60th Annual National Bike Month and next Monday starts Bike to Work week. Sandra McGuinness is a Maui Bicycling League board member, and she joined the show via phone to tell us more about what’s going on this month.

There are few personal tragedies more painful or more difficult to recover from than the loss of a family member.   We find ourselves wondering if we can possibly survive the event or ever know the happiness again.   Tragedy hit Bonnie Lee Mahler twice, with the deaths of two sons in separate drowning accidents, and she was determined not to allow her experience to destroy her.  Her journey led her to write a memoir, called “Embrace the Moment” and she joined the show by phone from her Kapolei home.
