Friday, March 6th – from HPR2, it’s The Conversation
You probably like the idea of preventing discrimination by an employer and supporting harassment-free workplaces. But according to the Hawaii Civil Rights Commission, a bill set for decision making today, if reverted to its original form, would limit employer liability and weaken Hawaii state protections by importing a federal law. Linda Hamiliton Krieger is the chair of the Hawaii Civil Rights Commission and she joined us in studio to provide her assessment of the bill.

Winning Girl, Film: Kimberlee Bassford
You can learn a lot from the story of a champion… nobody gets to the top of the heap without struggle, sacrifice, and a fair share of disappointment. The champions, of course, are the ones who persevere. That’s the story director Kimberlee Bassford wanted to tell in her documentary Winning Girl, showing tomorrow at the Ko Olina Children's Film & Music Festival. She joined the show to talk about the film and its production process.

Koolauloa Community Plan: Tim Vandeveer
The long battle of developing part of Oahu's North Shore took a turn yesterday. For the opponents to one of the greatly controversial parts of the Koolauloa Sustainable Communities Plan, it was a win. At issue was the section drafted by Honolulu's Department of Planning and Permitting that would have allowed a large housing development in Malaekahana. Although The Honolulu City Council Zoning and Planning Committee approved the plan, it was amended to remove the proposed residential community. That's good news for the Defend Oahu Coalition. Tim Vandeveer is its co-chair and he joined us this morning in our studios.

The December Project: Sara Davidson
The end of life is shrouded in mystery -- and we tend to shy away from the un-knowable: it makes us feel small and helpless. Sara Davidson is an author who faced the unknowable head-on in a series of conversations about death, and how to prepare for it, with the rabbi who founded the Jewish Renewal Movement: Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi. These talks became the heart of a book: The December Project. Sara Davidson will discuss her project this Sunday at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary at Temple Emanu-El in Honolulu.
