FCC Internet Regulations: Michael Copps
You might want to strike one down for Internet equality. Last week, the Federal Communications Commission proposed new rules to allow content providers to pay Internet providers to fast track their products. That idea may not have net freedom advocates up in arms, it may mean higher prices for consumers, too. Former FCC commissioner and now Common Cause advisor Michael Copps doesn’t like that scenario. He has been travelling around the country to make the case for net freedom and was in Honolulu last month. Today we reached him at his home in Washington.

People who love to dance already know about the weekend ahead – it’s Cinco de Mayo… known in its home country, Mexico, as El Día de la Batalla de Puebla. North Shore/Turtle Bay Conservation Agreement: Doug Cole
The old expression that it isnt over until it’s over couldn’t have had truer meaning as we headed into the weekend. The Turtle Bay deal to protect the 600 acre easement had gone from on to off to on again in the space of a little over a day. But when it was done, the agreement the Governor had announced mid-April of almost 50 million dollars of state, city and the Trust for Public Land money made it through conference...to the great relief of Doug Cole, executive director of the North Shore Community Land Trust. Doug Cole joined the show via phone.

There’s so much pleasure to be had from making art – but so many of us, especially as we grow up, tend to feel inhibited, and we don’t even try any more. That’s where Alma Wynn steps in with her Island Art Parties… the idea being that if you address the inhibition, you may be able to surprise yourself, and discover the artist within. It’s a kind of structured event, part cocktail party, part art class, as she explained when we spoke a few days ago.
