H?k? Zuttermeister is from a family that is renowned in the world of Hawaiian music and hula. His great-grandmother Kau?i Zuttermeister composed the classic ‘N? Pua Lei Ilima.’ H?k?’s debut album in 2007, ??ina Kupuna, won six N?H?k?Hanohano Awards. His latest release is called Ku?u Pua Sakura. He wrote the title song for his mother, comparing her to a sakura, or cherry blossom. HPR’s Derrick Malama asked H?k? why he chose that flower for his mother.

Derrick Malama does double duty at HPR, serving as the host of Kanikapila Sunday on HPR-2, and the local anchor of Morning Edition, weekday mornings from 5 am to 8:30 am on HPR-1.
