The Conversation: Pros and cons of raising Hawaiʻi's minimum wage
Lawmakers didn’t waste time this session scheduling the first hearing on bills to raise the minimum wage in Hawaiʻi. The federal government raised its minimum for federal workers to $15 as of Sunday. Proponents of raising the minimum argue a hike is past due. It has been held at $10.10 for the last four years. Opponents say not so fast and not so high, and claim doing so could force some small businesses to close. The Conversation explores both sides.
