Kauaʻi Island Utility Cooperative says it was able to operate overnight without rolling blackouts after several generating plants were placed back on line by Monday afternoon.

The utility instituted rolling blackouts this week following an islandwide outage on Sunday. KIUC traced the cause to a cable failure at its Kapaia generating unit, which tripped off-line on Sunday.

Power remained on during the Monday eveningʻs peak usage.

"This was due to a combination of member conservation efforts, successfully getting another diesel plant back on line yesterday, and having the Green Energy Team biomass plant and the Wainiha hydropower plants come back up to full output," KIUC said in a media update. The utility also increased energy production from its solar facilities

"At this time we do not anticipate having [to] resume the use of rolling blackouts. Continued member conservation efforts are appreciated," the utility said.
