Owners of homes and businesses on Hawaii Island are giving a careful reading to their insurance policies in the wake of the latest Kilauea eruption -- and it’s likely that some of their claims will be denied. Puna resident Darrell Clinton was injured by a lava bomb this month while standing on a lanai. His story got us wondering about a scientist who was burned almost exactly 33 years ago while out in the field gathering information about Kilauea’s flow. That day was June 12, 1985.George Ulrich’sburned uniform is now part of an exhibit at the Jaggar Museum at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We tracked Ulrich down last week.
