John Gotanda on Ginsburg

Here in Hawaii those who knew Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg personally are grieving for her loss and have taken the time to reflect on their memories. One of those was John Gotanda, President of Hawaii Pacific University and former law dean of Villanova University. Ginsburg hired Gotanda early on in his career and he recalls how she overlooked his insecurities as a young law student from Hawaii on his first real job interview.

Hu Honua

It’s high stakes on the Hamakua Coast. The fate of a 400 million dollar investment into a green energy project for the Big Island’s remote coast hangs in the balance. Lawyers for  the company are back before the Hawaii Supreme Court after the Public Utilities Commission declined to motion to reconsider its case. We talked to Warren Lee, CEO of Honua Ola BioEnergy, also known as Hu Honua this morning about its request for the court to intervene.

Timeshare Report

On the horizon is an October 15th start date to reopen tourism with a pre-testing plan to avoid the 14 day quarantine period. Many whose jobs are tied to the visitor industry are hopeful this will help our economic recovery. The Hawaii Tourism Authority has just released its timeshare report for the second quarter of the year. We talked to Erik Kloninger of Kloninger and Sims Consulting about the changing landscape during that point in time - exactly who came to stay, and how long they stayed.
