Day of Remembrance for Japanese Americans
On Feb. 19, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law Executive Order 9066. It led to the forced removal and incarceration of 120,000 Americans of Japanese descent. Decades later, it was deemed unlawful. We spoke with Eric Yamamoto, who is the Fred T. Korematsu Professor of Law and Social Justice at the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law. He tells us about Fred Korematsu and the Day of Remembrance. There will be a Day of Remembrance event on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii at 2454 S. Beretania Street in Honolulu. The event is free. President Obama's memorabilia road show
President Barack Obama's presidential library is being built in Chicago, but leading up to the holiday weekend there was a roadshow of sorts at the Biship Museum. Dozens of people brought items to be considered for inclusion into the Chicago venue.
