Welcome to Classical Pacific for December 8, 2017. I’m your host, John Zak.
Are you folks on O’ahu looking for something festive to do this Sunday, December 10th? How about attending the annual Holiday Concert of the Windward Choral Society? It takes place at Saint John Vianney Church on Keolu Drive in Kailua, at 4 PM. The same program will be presented on December 17th in the same location, so if you can’t make it this weekend, you will have another opportunity to enjoy some fine music, including Lauridsen’s “O Nata Lux” from Lux Aeterna which you heard on Classical Pacific yesterday. Mahalo to Ronald Staton for letting us know about this concert. Don’t miss. it.
In today’s broadcast, we’ll hear music of Alfvén, Khachaturian, Lizst, Ravel, Cardoso, and Jeff Peterson.
Be sure to gather the keiki for a listening party at 5:06 PM today, when we’ll present another installment of “The Big Ears Music Club”. Louise King Lanzilotti joins me to explore the world of brass instruments.
You may be hearing some on-air promos regarding HPR’s search for a program host for HPR 2 and here’s why: After a great deal of consideration, I have decided to step down from my duties as host of Classical to pursue some exciting opportunities in production and in voice-over work . These new projects will likely take me to the Mainland and overseas for periods of time. But, Hawaii is home and I am delighted to announce that I will also be continuing my happy relationship with HPR in the coming year, with involvement in special projects, which I think you’ll enjoy. HPR has become a deep and meaningful part of my life and I am very proud of the work that is done here every day.
I will be on-air with Classical Pacific until mid December, and then, right after Christmas, meetings and planning sessions begin for the new projects. So, I happily say to my fellow HPR aficionados, “Aloha. A hui hou!”
