Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi has appointed Arthur Tolentino to the Board of Directors of the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation, the overseeing authority for Honolulu’s rail transit project.

Tolentino replaces Hoyt Zia, who resigned in December of last year. Tolentino is president of the Hawaiʻi Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 293.

His appointment took effect Tuesday and his term runs through June 2025.

“I am humbled by Mayor Blangiardi’s appointment and will work to restore trust in the largest public works project in Hawaiʻi’s history,” Tolentino said in a statement.
