Transportation officials call for public input on Honoapiʻilani Highway construction

Hawaii Department of Transportation

The state Department of Transportation invites Maui residents to a virtual town hall meeting to discuss construction improvements to Honoapiʻilani Highway. The project would improve a section of the highway between Launiupoko and Ukumehame.

The Federal Highway Administration has awarded a $22 million construction grant toward the project.

The coastline road is vulnerable to erosion, high wave flooding, and sea level rise. The two-lane highway is the only road that provides access in and out of West Maui.

The DOT is gathering input before starting the environmental review process. The meetings will be held virtually through Zoom.

The town hall meetings will take place two times:

Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 6-8 P.M. (click here for Zoom link)
Thursday, Feb. 24 from 12-2 P.M. (click here for Zoom link)
