The state Department of Transportation announced a section of Kamehameha Highway will reduce its speed limit starting Monday, Jan. 3.
The section that will be reduced is between the intersection of Kamehameha and Pali highways known as “Castle Junction,” and the H-3 on-ramp.
The 45 miles per hour limit will change to 35 miles per hour.
The speed limit is being lowered to increase safety for pedestrians in the area.
The road is home to pedestrian-heavy destinations such as Hawaiʻi Pacific University and the Pali Golf Course. Two raised pedestrian crosswalks will be added.
