ʻIolani Palace will receive nearly $500,000 from the National Park Service to repair and rehabilitate its roof.

The palace’s roof will replace approximately 9,000 square feet of slate roofing and remove rust damage. Roof accessories and skylights also will be repaired.

The roof will maintain its historic appearance but will be improved to prevent future water damage.

The funding is part of the Save America’s Treasures grants from the National Park Service, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute for Museum and Library Services.

The grants are helping to restore nationally significant historic landmarks. It is awarding $15.5 million to help restore 49 historical projects in 29 states.

The date of construction has yet to be determined.
